“My passion offline is the amazing and beautiful sport of rhythmic gymnastics.” – Zara Mae Roodt, UCT Online High School learner
Zara Mae Roodt is a Grade 9 learner at UCT Online High School and a Junior Olympic rhythmic gymnast.
Her journey with rhythmic gymnastics started when she was 6 years old. After her father spotted her doing a cartwheel in the garden, he promptly signed her up with a rhythmic gymnastics centre.
Almost 10 years later, Zara’s even more determined to achieve all her gymnastic goals. Recently, she represented South Africa at the 2022 African Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Egypt – where she placed 10th out of the entire African continent.
For Zara, the most fun part of UCT Online High School is the competitions and live sessions, as well as connecting with peers and making friends across the country.
“Because of the personalised pacing that UCT [Online High School] allows, I have definitely seen a benefit in my school marks and my training levels,” she says.
With her long practice hours, Zara finds that attending UCT Online High School allows her to create the perfect schedule to achieve her academic and career goals.
