What’s it like to study your matric online? Step into Erica's world as she takes you through her everyday routine, shares success tips, and offers an inside look at UCT Online High School.
Erica starts her day by looking through her module view to see how many lessons she needs to complete this week. She talks through how she plans her schedule and thinks through the best times to complete her work.
“So today I’m doing economics because economics takes me long and today I have no meetings so I can focus completely … [I’m also doing] English because it has an SP at the end and I want to knock that out”
Erica talks about her strategy to get herself into work mode by starting with her LO because it’s quick and will allow her to “build momentum and get me into ‘yes productive student vibes’”.
She also talks about planning to do more intensive work when she’s more focused and attentive:
“So I’m finished all my lessons for English except for the mastery check … and I want to take my time and do it when I’m focused,” she says.
Erica also makes sure to schedule time for breaks and self-care activities. Halfway through her first lesson, Erica takes a quick break to eat her breakfast before her check-in with her Support Coach.
During the day, Erica takes breaks when “my brain is tired” (although her plans to go outside are foiled by some rain). At the end of her school day, she takes some time to go for a short walk once the rain has stopped.
“And that is a wrap for today … now I'm gonna go grab my takkies and go for a nice little walk.”
