UCT Online High School is aware of the press release issued by Umalusi on Thursday 5 September.

UCT Online High School is registered with the South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI) Examination Body - this can be found here: https://www.sacai.org.za/nsc-department/#registered-institutions or from downloadable PDF here (Line item no. 40): https://www.sacai.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Registered-Distance-Education-Providers-06Aug2024.pdf.

In turn, SACAI is accredited by the Umalusi Council and follows the South African National Senior Certificate curriculum (NSC), the recognised Matric qualification for South Africa, which is fully recognised by employers, colleges and universities, and which has the same standing as a National Senior Certificate accredited directly by Umalusi and offered by conventional brick-and-mortar schools.

UCT Online High School successfully completed our first set of matric examinations through SACAI in 2023. Our 2024 matric learners are in the process of preparing for their final examinations. They have all been placed at SACAI examination centres and we will continue to ensure our 2024 matric cohort are fully supported in this critical build up to their examinations.

We can reassure all our current learners and their families, as well, as all those who have applied for admission to UCT Online High School for 2025, or who are considering doing so, that the curriculum that they will follow at our school, and the Matric qualification that they will eventually receive, are fully compliant with current legislation and regulations for the provision of education in South Africa.

UCT Online High School (UCTOHS) was established in July 2021 as a partnership between the University of Cape Town and the Valenture Institute, an ed-tech company with the mission of creating aspirational opportunities for learners.

The announcement of this partnership can be found here: https://www.news.uct.ac.za/article/-2021-07-22-ucts-online-high-school-innovative-quality-education-for-al.

The UCT Online High School project is an integral part of UCT’s strategic objectives that come together as Vision 2030. More information is available here: https://uct.ac.za/explore-uct-strategic-initiatives/uct-online-high-school.
