We’re here to champion our learners' passions – both online and offline.
In our Learner Spotlight series, we want to highlight our amazing learners and their incredible accomplishments. Each story shows how online learning helps learner-athletes like Amber to take their passions to the next level.
Meet Amber
“Thanks to a bunch of really awesome people including my Support Coach at UCT Online High School, I have been able to train, race, and travel while keeping up with my school work.” – Amber Hindmarch, UCT Online High School learner
Amber Hindmarch is a Grade 11 learner at UCT Online High School, and a South African road and track cyclist.
Amber started cycling when she was just 10 years old and her first-ever race was the Cape Town Cycle Tour. She’s come a long way since then. Her proudest moment is winning the 2023 South African Omnium Championships in Johannesburg.
“My favourite place to study is in the living room because my dog keeps me company. It is also very quiet and I feel that I am most productive there,” says Amber.
Amber can spend up to 20 hours training each week, as well as travelling to and from competitions. This is what makes UCT Online High School so convenient for Amber, and other learners like her.
Being a UCT Online High School learner allows Amber to structure her school work around her training schedule, thanks to our structured flexibility model.
“Being a learner at UCT Online High School means I’m able to structure my school work around my training. On days when I have less training, I am able to do more school work and on days when I have a lot of training I can do less school work,” she says.
