Preparing for your Amended Senior Certificate (ASC) exams? Here are some resources that’ll help set you up for success.
It’s not always easy to re-enter your studies. If you haven’t earned your matric certificate, the ASC is your second chance at educational success. So when it comes to studying for your ASC exams, you’ll want to make the most of the many quality resources at your disposal. If you don’t know where to start, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
There are numerous resources available to help you prepare for this next step. From video lessons and study guides to past exam papers and support programmes, here are some top resources you can access.
The CAPS curriculum
The first thing you’ll want to do after registering for your ASC exams is to download the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) for your selected subjects from the Department of Basic Education (DBE) website. Since the ASC is a self-study programme, you will need this to prepare for your exams.
These documents outline the aims of the curriculum, the content you need to study, as well as information on how you’ll be assessed. If you’re unable to download the curriculum, you can also get a copy from your provincial education office.
Second Chance Programme
The DBE has developed this programme to provide support for both ASC and National Senior Certificate (NSC) learners.
It includes a wide range of DBE-produced resources that you can use while preparing for your exams, all of which are available on their website.
Some of the top resources include:
- multimedia learning material for targeted subjects (including Accounting, Agricultural Science, Business Studies, Economics, English First Additional Language, Geography, History. Life Sciences, Mathematics, Mathematics Literacy and Physical Sciences)
- Mind the Gap study guides
- online exams and past exam papers
- exam exemplars (which can be used to get an understanding of the standard and format questions of the subject exam).
