Getting back into studying can be a daunting task after being out of a school environment for any length of time. While it’s possible to prepare for your Amended Senior Certificate (ASC) exams on your own, going solo can be a difficult and isolating experience.

That’s why many adult learners opt to join an adult learning programme that provides them with the support they need to achieve success. We decided to create the UCT Online High School Adult Matric programme with these learners in mind. Our mission is simple: to make quality education affordable and accessible to all, no matter where you’re located, and to help you achieve your very best in the ASC exams.

The programme provides a number of support systems for adult learners like you: from support advisors who are available for any administrative queries and encourage you to stay on track with your studies, to work plans that guide your progress through programme content, and autograded  assessments that let you track your mastery of the course material. Here are all the advantages our programme offers you.

1. Structured flexibility with online learning

Like all of our school offerings, the Adult Matric programme is delivered entirely online, so you can learn from anywhere. It’s been designed using our principle of "structured flexibility". This means that you’ll be given an overall structure to work within, but can pursue your studies in your own time. And since your learning is online, you can revisit your lessons as many times as you need to master the course content.

2. Help from your Support Advisor

Learning is easier when you have guidance, support and an accountability partner. That’s why every adult learner who participates in the programme is assigned a Support Advisor.

They’re there to provide clarity on any administrative queries you might have regarding the Adult Matric programme, and to support you with making the most of your online learning experience.  Your Support Advisor is available to you via WhatsApp or email, every day from Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 5:00pm (excluding South African public holidays).

3. Work plans

To help you manage your time and stay on top of your workload, we’ll provide you with a work plan that helps guide you in how you move through programme content each week.

These plans will help you to build a solid foundation for each of your ASC subjects. They’ll help you to keep on track and will be your source of truth for completing tasks and meeting deadlines.

4. Sign-posting and wrap-up videos

As you work through your ASC, you may sometimes feel overwhelmed by how long the road is. That’s why it’s so important to take stock of what you’ve learned, and how far you have already come.

To remind you of this, we include summary videos at the start and end of each module. As you watch these videos, you’ll be able to revise the key learning outcomes and takeaways from the lessons you’ve completed. This helps you to engage with crucial subject content.

5. Termly revision modules

Ultimately, your ASC is about preparing for your final exams. So we provide termly revision modules that’ll highlight the most important examinable content from the previous term and provide you with opportunities to consolidate and apply your knowledge. Altogether, this will give you a greater chance of success in your final ASC exams.

6. Mastery Checks

To check how well you’ve understood the content presented in the lessons, we end each module with a Mastery Check. These will either be quizzes that require you to recall and apply what you have just learned, or self-assessed tasks where you’ll be provided with a memo to see whether you have achieved competence in that module.

Make the most of your second chance and join the programme

If you’re ready to get started on this exciting and life-changing journey, you can head on over to UCT Online High School website to submit your application for the Adult Matric programme.
